Barcelona will now be missing the services of Sergio Busquets, their Spanish international, who will not be turning up for the next weekend’s Primera Division trip to Valladolid because he had bruised his kidney in Barcelona’s 4-0 win over Sevilla on Saturday. Busquets, 21-year-old, has been a regular under coach Pep Guardiola, making 24 appearances this season.

The absence of Sergio Busquets and also of Yaya Toure and Seydou Keita because of the Africa Cup of Nations, may give a push to Pep Guardiola on relying on a substitute in the defensive midfield and youth product Jonathan dos Santos or else the Mexican international Rafa Marquez seem to fit the bill.

Well, it may be known to the clearly what will happen, whether it will rely on substitute or have its own defensive midfield, but football bets are on the high of this unpredictable situation.

In September, the day that he debuted with a tie at the Camp Nou against Racing (1-1), Cruyff’s eyes were illuminated. Hours later, his article in the newspaper announced something big. “Technically superior to Toure and Keita. Positionally, he seems like a veteran. With or without the ball. With the ball he made what is difficult look easy: he disposes of the ball with one or two touches. Rejected in a test

The rest is known: he graduated to the first team, his contract has been renewed until 2013, with a buy-out clause of €80 million, he plays defensive pivot, a position that he revolutionized. Sergio Busquets played the whole game, and was really brilliant. He played great in his position, showed some great skills during the game. Another interesting thing is that he was the player on whom Osasuna players commited the most fauls.

He is truly a great player and Guardiola is happy to have him aboard.

The signing was attended by Joan Laporta, the player’s representatives, Barcelona sports vice-president Rafael Yuste, Barcelona economic vice-president Joan Boix, Barcelona chief executive Joan Oliver, Barcelona sports director Txiki Begiristain and Barcelona general director of football Raül Sanllehí assisted the signature of the player.

Busquets’ current contract expires the next summer, and this deal will keep him in Barcelona until 2013.
And to prove that everything is true, Sergio’s agent has confirmed in an interview with a radio station from Catalonia that everything has been agreed upon.

The deal will be signed when Txiki Bergiristain returns from Japan. That is expected to be next week.
